History
Ekone Oyster Company was founded on May 15, 1982 by Nick and Joanne Jambor. It all started a year after Nick built a small wood smokehouse for his wife Joanne’s birthday. Since they were interested in oyster farming, they tried their hand at smoking oysters. Their friends loved them. Soon the product was being put into small plastic bags and Nick and Joanne went restuarant to restaurant in the Seattle area. This formed the basis for having a real smokehouse built, renting a small space and going to work.
Over the years, the company grew and expanded their markets. Now Ekone employs close to fifty people. They are still known for their smoked oysters, but also have a full line which includes all sizes of in-shell and opened oysters. The farm consists of over 350 acres which are farmed in pristine Willapa Bay using both long line methods and the traditional ground culture.
